Ice cream ratings!

A request from a friend – rate the ice creams during the trip in case they need a recommendation – so here we go!!!!!

Toronto – The Beaches – Eds Real Scoops. Serves ice cream, sorbet and gelato and freshly made waffle cones. Andy had burnt marshmallow and I had something delicious but can’t remember the flavour- it was good tho!!!!!!

Ottawa – Byward Market – Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. Andy had Smores ice-cream which was good and I had mango and strawberry swirl (lovely) and maple & walnut (not so keen, a bit grainy).

Vancouver – La Casa Gelato with over 200 flavours to choose from!! The white chocolate with cranberries and almonds was excellent. Andy rated the blackened smores and rum and raisin highly too.

Campbell River, Vancouver Island – Island Farm ice cream on the Discovery Fishing Pier. Super cheap and mint choc chip was delicious.

Seattle – near Pike Place Market. Small batch snoqualmie ice cream – salted caramel was delicious and Andy enjoyed the toasted coconut one. Not cheap but good!

Long Beach Washington State – we were going to try one of the 64 flavours at Scoopers, but after seeing the HUGE queue (line up if you’re american), we headed for Sweet Phees instead. The espresso explosion was a success, and Andy enjoyed the pistachio.

The Dalles, Oregan – Scoopers. This one only had 30 plus flavours! I had Dark Cherry (well it is cherry season here now), which was delicious and Andy had Caramel Caribou – it had chocolate drops with caramel in and was lovely.

Hope Ranch Lavender, Fruit Loop, Hood River – delicious soft homemade lavender ice cream – mmmmm. Just a hint of lavender, so not overpowering.

Toppers in Yachats, Oregan – today we tried the local Umpqua ice cream. Lovely and creamy, the chocolate brownie thunder was really good and very rich. Andy had boring old mint choc chip but said it was a good one!

Solvang, California – Cafe Dolce. The banana and salted caramel gelato was excellent and Andy enjoyed a toasted coconut and almond ice-cream. They were very much appreciated in the heat.

Monterey – The American Cookie Co. Rocky Road ice cream – Andy’s verdict was heavy on the nuts but too light on the marshmallows but otherwise delicious. I had Mocha Fudge Almond – again, heavy on the almonds and not enough fudge.

New Zealand – Rollickin Gelato Cafe ( Christchurch). We tried Pop’s Lemon Pie (delicious, really taste the lemon), Yogi Bear (sort of lemony with caramel swirl), Mint choc and Hokey Tokey Pokey ( which Andy said was lovely). We also noticed that New Zealand has a bigger range of Magnun flavours and cheaper than the UK (the double sunflower- mango and white chocolate is yummy).

Townsville, Australia – Juliettes. The mango yoghurt ice cream was really, really good, and Andy enjoyed the coconut one. Lovely creamy tasting ice cream here, and the flavours change often, apparently.

Noosa Plaza, Australia – The Scoop. Lovely retro 1960s diner decor. I tried the ginger and macadamia (lovely creamy ice cream but could have used more ginger) and salted lime (wow, this really was delicious and refreshing). Andy had rum and raisin, of course (but he said it was a good one) and the honeycomb, which was tasty.

Fremantle, Western Australia – Swan River Gelato. Delicious pavlova flavour with real fruit. Andy enjoyed his banana and cinnamon gelato and another scoop of Biscoff.

Cape Town, South Africa – Unframed ice cream, Time Out market. You can have a 5 flavour taster flight, which are full sized scoops for a really good price. We tried sweet lemon (lovely and tangy), dirty salted caramel – delicious, carrot cake – it really tasted of carrot cake – yummy, vanilla bean – good and finally beetroot, ginger and chocolate (tasted sort of fudge but not overly unpleasant).
